William Samuel Brown , 88, of Chunky, MS passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at Bedford Care Center in Marion, MS. He was born Monday, September 24, 1928 in Hickory, MS.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home - North in Newton with funeral services at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on the Meehan/Suqualena Road. Dr. Aaron Parker will officiate.

Mr. William "Sam" Brown loved his family and was a faithful member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. He was a veteran and an active supporter of the veterans. He worked many years as a carpenter and enjoyed gardening, walking, drinking coffee with friends and discussing the news. He loved teaching his young boy's Sunday school class. He was a trustee for the children's home at Laurel, MS and retired as a trustee there in September 2016 at the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Association annual meeting which he attended faithfully. He will be truly missed by friends, family and all that knew him.

He is preceded in death by his spouse, Jewel Speed Gressett Brown; his parents,Jay and Bessie Brown; step-daughter Martha Lou Scruggs; two brothers, Joe and Bob Brown; three sisters, Bonnie Crawford, Juanice Fountain, and Mamie Stampley.

Survivors include his Step-Sons, Jerry Gressett, John W. Gressett, Rod Gressett; Step-Daughters, Mary Ann Oliver, Nita Pierce, Rachel Lott, Sandra Buckley; five grandchildren, Tony Oliver (Cherylann), Shane Oliver (Brandi), Jerry V. Gressett (Jenney), Joshua M. Gressett (DeNea), and Brandy L. Gressett; one Brother, Tom Brown; 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Gressett, Brandy Gressett, Tony Oliver, Shane Oliver and Jerry V. Gressett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Sam's Boy's Sunday School Class

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rock Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
