Obituary

Mrs. Waurean Walker Wilson, age 95, and a longtime resident of Garlandville, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, and Friday thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Garlandville Church.

Burial will follow in Garlandville Cemetery.

Bro. Joe Garvin will officiate.

She was born Saturday, February 8, 1930 in the Hero community in Northern Jasper County. She was educated in the Hickory School system, and retired from La-Z-Boy South after many years of service. After retirement, she worked alongside her husband on the family dairy farm. She was a member of Garlandville Church, where she was active in all aspects of the church. Mrs. Wilson was a wonderful cook, often expressing her love through food with her family, friends and community.  She loved her family very much, and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Allison Yongue "A.Y." Wilson, Jr.; father, Clarence "Bud" Walker; mother, Ora Belle Jay Walker; one grandchild, Jeremy Williams; three brothers, D.T. Walker, Robert Walker and Clarence Walker and three sisters, Mary Etta Boulton, Edna Grantham and Carlean Loper.

Survivors include her children, Donna Herring (Dub) of Carriere; Barbara Windham (Van) and Mabel Sims (Jim) both of Bay Springs and Al Wilson, III (Barbara) of Hattiesburg; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randy Loper, Tim Jay, Butch Newman, Chris Hubbard, Lee Windham, Jared Windham, Gil Odom, and Todd Reece.

Honorary pallbearers will be Emmitt Bankston, Bill Boulton, Paul Boulton, and Jimmy Coker.

Special music will be provided by Mr. Clint Walker.

Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
