Vera Lois Thornsberry, 78 of Newton, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Bedford Care Center of Newton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South Chapel.
Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton.
Bro. Daniel Richardson and Bro. David Richardson will officiate.
Mrs. Thornsberry was a native of Newton County, born to a family of five children to Davis and Lora Bell Loper Richardson. She was a homemaker and a caretaker at Woodland Court Personal Care in Newton. She was member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She loved her family very much and was proud of the fact that she completed a course in floral design, which was a favorite past time. As testified by her family, she was an excellent candy maker and cook. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Jimmy Thornsberry; one daughter, Lynn Jones (David); two grandchildren: Brandon Johnson and Kayla Smith; her parents: Davis and Lora Bell Loper Richardson; four brothers, Cecil Richardson, Phillip Richardson, Jim Richardson and Infant Frank Richardson.
Survivors include her sons, Shannon Doss (Cathy) of Lawrence and Wayne Doss of Louin; daughters, Sharon Harris (Mike) of Lawrence, Missy Crenshaw of Decatur; thirteen grandchildren; a host of great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jason Felton, Brandon Felton, Ronnie Richardson, Dylan McElhenney, Caleb Dabbs, and Remington Dabbs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Jones.
Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
