Obituary

Thomas Blythe Harthcock of Newton, Mississippi died Monday, March 12, 2018.

Harthcock was born July 29, 1929 in Clarksdale, MS to Thelma Barmer Harthcock and Martin Bates Harthcock.

Before graduating from Mississippi State University, he served with the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He served on various bases in the US and one year in Korea.

He was married to the love of his life Delia Glynn Alexander of Tunica, MS for 59 years.

They lived in Starkville, MS while in college then moved to Newton, MS in 1957.

He had a distinguished career in the insurance and real estate business. During his career he served as President of Harthcock Insurance Agency, and is a past President of Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi, and also served on the Board of Directors Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi.

He was an alderman for the City of Newton for 27 years. He served as a Director on the Newton County Bank Board for 46 years.

Harthcock also served the community in several organizations. He was a past President Newton Rotary Club, past President Chamber of Commerce, past President Newton County Chapter Mississippi State Alumni Association, was as past Chairman Newton United Givers Fund. He was an Eagle Scoutmaster, received distinguished scout award.

Harthcock's hobbies were keeping up with the Mississippi State Bulldogs and fishing. He had a love for sports as he played football, baseball and basketball in high school. While serving in the air force played on the Air Force All Star Softball Team.

He was a long time member of Newton United Methodist Church of Newton, MS.

He is survived by his son Thomas (Tommy)Harthcock Jr. (Suzanne) of Newton, daughter Patti Simmons of Foley, Alabama, daughter Jane Harthcock of Newton and his grandchildren Thomas (Tommy) Harthcock III, Shelby Harthcock, Tiffany Simmons Hillerman (Peter), Jessie Harthcock Haley (Michael) Ashley Harthcock, Jake Harthcock and great grandson Graham Hillerman.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Newton United Methodist Church with a memorial service immediately following.
