Obituary

Mrs. Thelma Blackburn Holladay, age 103, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the Bedford Care Center of Newton, where she had been a resident for almost seven years.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home-North, 9998 Hwy. 15 N, Newton. The funeral service will follow the visitation in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Conehatta Methodist Cemetery at Conehatta. Rev. William Savell and Rev. Mark Beasley will officiate.

Mrs. Holladay was a longtime resident of Newton County. She was a retired seamstress from the Newton Company after thirty years of service. She was a Christian by faith and a member at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing, visiting with friends and family, and shared her faith with everyone she came in contact with, even until the last day she lived. She was the Matriarch of her family, whom she loved very much. She will be missed and her legacy will be remembered for generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Pat Blackburn and E.C. "Dub" Holladay; sons, Bobby Blackburn (Becky), Harold Blackburn, and Jimmy Blackburn; father, T.J."Bud" Loper; mother, Fannie Lula McClemore Loper; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Blackburn and seven siblings.

Survivors include her sons, Curtis Blackburn (Susie) of Conehatta and Larry Blackburn (Jo) of Decatur; daughters-in-law, Carol Blackburn of Newton and Janie Blackburn of Laurel; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; forty great-great grandchildren; special Christian Friend, Joe Pugh of Newton and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Blackburn, Mike Blackburn, Jim Blackburn, Tim Blackburn, Tab Blackburn, and Levi Holliman.

Special music will be provided by Mr. Joe Pugh and Bro. William Savell.

The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation the staff of Bedford Care Center of Newton for their professional care and support for their loved one.
