Terry Lee Smith, 70, of Decatur, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Anderson's Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi. He was born Wednesday, March 28, 1951 in Meridian, Mississippi.

In addition to being an amazing man, husband, father, son, brother, cousin, and friend, Terry was a master carpenter who could build almost anything out of wood just from a verbal description or paper drawing.  He built houses with his father as a young man and with his cousin into mid-life.  He built custom pieces of furniture and cabinets.  Terry also worked as an EMT with Metro Ambulance from about 1987 to 1999.  He also lived on a farm and raised cattle.  In 2000, Terry moved from his home town of Collinsville, MS to Washington, DC where he worked as a maintenance carpenter for military housing.  He saw the fireball from the plane that crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11, and was there during the Anthrax attacks and sniper attacks.  From about 2004 until he retired in 2017, he worked for military housing and contracting in Maryland and Virginia.  Since retirement, Terry has worked on reconstructing a farmhouse, as his forever house, and working on the farm.  He may have retired from public work, but he never slowed down.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home-North with a memorial service immediately following.  Burial will take place at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lois Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Smith; children: Jeff Smith, Jamie Smith, Julie Nelson (John Corey), and Matthew Smith (Shannon); brothers: James Ronny Smith and Bob Smith (Cindy); grandchildren: Regan Tanksley, Ryan Smith, Maddox Smith, Tanner Smith, Thomas Beck, Carson Nelson, Carter Smith and Lorelai Smith; and goddaughter, Breannah Beavers.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Newton County Veteran's Memorial Park.
