Simmie D Godwin, aged 90, of Newton, MS, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Bee Hive Homes of Newton. Born on December 9, 1934, in Newton, Mississippi, she was a cherished member of the community and a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Simmie D was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a graduate of Newton High School and a member of the Eastern Star. Her passions included sewing, working with crafts, baking for family and special events, singing in her church, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Rogers Godwin; her son, Roger Godwin; her father, Emmett Ross Robinson; her mother, Velma Alice Davis Robinson; and her sister, Dora Lee Jay.
She is survived by her son, Rocky Dewayne Godwin of Newton, MS; her grandchildren, Felicity Broderick (Joe), Rocky Joe Godwin (Amanda), Taylor Scharer (Caleb), and Landrey Morris (Casey); her great-grandchildren, Joy Broderick, Jett Broderick, Elliot Godwin, Liam Scharer, Simmie Ann Godwin, Hunter Scharer, and Caysen Morris; her brother, Bobby Earl Robinson (Susie); as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, 1968 Liberty Church Road, Newton, Mississippi. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with burial in Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Newton, MS. Bro. Robert Rowzee will officiate the services, and arrangements are under the care of Newton County Funeral Home - South.
Pallbearers will be Charles Godwin, Adam Godwin, Randy Godwin, Wiley Walker, Larry Gressett, and Henry Sibley.
Simmie D will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
