Services for Mr. Sidney Myzell Steverson will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Chunky Baptist Church in Chunky, MS. Rev. Wayne Campbell, Rev. Matt Pittman, and Rev. D.J. Benson will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements, 601-635-3200.
Sidney Myzell Steverson passed away on August 30, 2015 at his home in Chunky, MS, at the age of 84.
Sidney was born on Dec 4, 1930, in Brandon, MS. He was the son of Robert and Dora Lee Steverson who pre-deceased him and was the 5th of seven children. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Frankie, Helen, Bobby and younger brother Pete.
He lived the early part of his life in Brandon, MS, later leaving to serve in the army during the Korean war. Upon returning from the war he enrolled in French Camp Academy to complete his high school education. Upon completion of his high school diploma he went on to further studies at William Carey College before being employed with Shell Oil Co. It was while he attended French Camp Academy he met and later married Bobbye King. Sidney and Bobbye celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in March of 2015.
Sidney worked for Shell Oil Company until his retirement in 1990. During his time of employment with Shell he was honored for perfect attendance and numerous meritorious service awards. After his retirement from Shell he turned his attention to farming which he continued until May of 2014. He loved to tend his cows and garden and take care of his family. He also loved to travel with family and enjoyed visiting historic sites. He attended Chunky Baptist church and served as a Deacon until his death. He also served as an alderman and mayor of Chunky until 2013.
Sidney is survived by wife Bobbye, oldest son Dan Steverson and wife Pam and their children Flynn and Daniel, daughter Krista Gutierrez and her daughter Sidney, daughter Kim MacPherson and husband Bill and their children Adelaide and Murray. He is also survived by siblings Luther Steverson and Erma Meadows.
