Roslyn Rogers Downing, 72 of Morton, MS passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023 at her residence in Morton, MS and went to her heavenly home.  She was born Friday, April 6, 1951 in Morton, Mississippi.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Morton Memorial Gardens in Morton, MS.  Rev. Harold Floyd will officiate.  Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements. 601-635-3200

Roslyn was an avid basketball player having won the AA State Championship in 1969.  She and her teammates went on to runner-up in the overall state championship the same year.  Roslyn was also selected onto several all-tournament teams.   She then went on to play at East Central Community College and was inducted into their basketball hall of fame after only one year.  Roslyn retired from Acoustics Inc. in Ridgeland after 37 years of employment.  She was a selflessly devoted employee and loved her work family as her own.  Roslyn also devoted much of her life to her pets.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy D. Rogers, Sr. and Mary Lou "Flea" Lindsey Rogers.

Survivors include her son, Lance Downing; brother, Jimmy D. Rogers, Jr. (Pat); nephew, Trey Rogers (Carrie); great nephew, Payton Rogers (Parker); great niece, Alana Rogers; dear friend, Lauren Longo; and her many cousins in which she deeply loved.

Pallbearers will be Trey Rogers, Lance Lomax, Drew Lumsden, Bob Marston, Jason Gray, and Doug Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Lockert, Marvin Lindsey, John Lyle, Ricky Burns, Brian Parmentier, and Park Murray.
