Prentiss Edgar Myers, age 78, of Newton, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at his residence. He was born Friday, July 19, 1946 in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, 2024 from 9:00 am until 10:45 am, at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. Rev. William Savell will officiate.
Mr. Myers was a native of Neshoba County, and was a longtime resident of Newton. He was a 1965 graduate of Newton High School. In his professional career, by trade, he was a tractor and implement mechanic, which was his passion. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Myers was a cattle and poultry farmer. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. A Christian by faith, he held membership with the First Methodist Protestant Church at Newton. He was retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard with 36 years of service. He also was a member of the local Masonic Order.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Edgar Myers; mother, Mary Ardell Winstead Myers; one grandson, Will Boswell; one granddaughter, Claire "Tator" Myers; one son-in-law, Scott Doss, one brother, Bruce Myers and one brother-in-law, Stanley Boutwell.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy McElhenney Myers of Newton; two sons, William Myers (Carri) of Decatur and Shay Sumrall (Renee) of Waynesboro; three daughters, Julie Myers Wade (Austin) of Louin, Deanna Butler (Chip) of Brandon and Sonya Myers Boswell of Lawrence; four grandsons, Riley Boswell, Dru Butler, Kyle McLaughlin and Nathan McLaughlin; ten granddaughters, Ana Lauren Palmer, Katie Ross, Melissa Doyle, Desirae Hutto, Madalynn Myers, Mallory Spears, Ivy Pitts, Grace McLemore, Abby Butler and Callie "Tadpole" Wade and many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Dell Boutwell of Newton and Mary Ann Henriques of Flowood; several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Wade, Nick McLemore, Wes Spears, Eric McElhenney, Brady McElhenney and Justin Hutto.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International, Inc., Newton County Camp, P.O. Box 297, Newton, MS 39345.
