Otha Charles "Sonny" Gressett, 87 of Chunky passed away Friday, October 20, 2023 at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South Chapel. Burial will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery.

Bro. Lin Chesney and Bro. James McMillan will officiate.

He was a native of Newton County and a 1955 graduate of Meehan High School. He was retired from Chevron Oil, USA, as terminal manager.

He was preceded in death by his two wives, Fleeta Gressett and Margarett Gressett; two sons, Phillip Gressett and Brad Gressett; one granddaughter, Stacy Gressett; one grandson, Micah Gressett; his parents, Clyde and Clara Fitzgerald Gressett; one brother, McArthur Gressett and two sisters, Angie Lewis (James Edward) and Alice Lucovich (Pete).

Survivors include one son, Brian Gressett of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Tammy  Walters (Tim) of Harvest, AL and Susan Rathel (Charles) of Bainbridge, GA; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Gressett; five grandsons, Steve Walters, Chane Rathel (Rhonda), Andy Doss, Chad Rathel (Allison) and Cabe Rathel;  five granddaughters, Karen Massey, Stacy Walters, Hannah Gressett, Misty Smith and Haley Rathel; seven great grandchildren, Trey Walters, Harper Rice, Harrison Rice, A.J. Doss, Frankie Doss, Callan Rathel and Halle Rathel;   two brothers, Jerry Gressett (Diane) of Carthage and Sam Gressett of Meridian; numerous  nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Gentry, Johnny Clark, Dickie Alsup, Joey Alsup, Sam Thompson, Ronnie Moulds, and Roger Shirley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Huey Freeman, Larry Gressett and Cleve Ferguson.

Special music will be performed by Mr. Clint Walker.
