Funeral services for Nelson D. Scoggin will be 3 P.M. , on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Newton County Funeral Home - South with Bro. Lin Chesney, Bro. Josh Lang, and Bro. Ben Laird officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Bluff Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 P.M. - 7 P.M. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the funeral home.

Mr. Scoggin, 79 of Newton, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Bedford Care Center.

He was a native of Newton County. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for ESCO Corporation in Newton for over 30 years. He was a member and a deacon of Pine Bluff Baptist Church. Favorite past times were hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by two wives: Dorothy Scoggin and Ann Scoggin and his parents: Alvin and Lavada Chaney Scoggin.

Survivors include one sister: Estelle Gregory of Decatur; four grandchildren: Debby Robinson of Hickory; Lindy Pace of Lake; Cindy Burnside of Decatur; and Bo Boone of Lake; one half-brother: Lewis McCarty of Texas; four step-children; several nieces and nephews;

Pallbearers: Dale Hollingsworth, Bud Hollingsworth, Raymond Hollingsworth, Bill Vance, Doug Hollingsworth, and Wayne Hollingsworth.
