Mildred Holladay Valentine, 93, passed away on Friday April 16, 2021 at Orchid Cove Nursing Home in Lake Placid, Fla. She was under the loving care of good Shepherd Hospice. She was born on Sept. 6, 1927 to Byron and Lydia Holladay in Newton.

A memorial service will be held at Newton County Funeral Home-North on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Newton County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mildred worked for a number of years for Kraft Foods and for Ford's Ice Cream in Newton. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting afghans and giving them away to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. (Boots Valentine, a proud recipient of a Purple Heart during World War II); her parents; siblings, Wilbur Holladay, Francis Amis, Jennie Brady and Curtis Holladay.

She is survived by her sister, Bobbie Miller of Lake Placid, Fla.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special nieces, Elizabeth and Debbie Vance, who helped care for Mildred before her move to Florida.
