Mattie Lee Cape

Mattie Lee Cape, age 101, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Trend Health Rehab in Meridian, Mississippi. Born on December 12, 1923, in Kilbourne, Louisiana, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Mattie was deeply committed to her faith and enjoyed serving the Lord. She found joy in gardening, quilting, sewing, reading, and most importantly, spending time with her beloved family. Known for her hard work and dedication to her family, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Augusta Randles; mother, Ida Mae Toney Randles; one grandson; one great-grandson; and seven siblings.

She is survived by her four children, Carolyn Buckley of Meridian, MS, George Terry Cape (Sharon) of Brandon, MS, Joan Griffin (Thomas) of Pachuta, MS, and Dale Wilson (Herb) of Meridian, MS; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Hickory, Mississippi, with Bro. William Savell officiating. Newton County Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements.
