Obituary

Mary Lois Smith, 84, of Chunky, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 7, 2019. She was born on September 20, 1934.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Newton County Funeral Home-South. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, South of Chunky. Bro. Gerald Chaney and Bro. Lewis May will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 683-2152

Lois was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Mrs. Smith was a bookkeeper and homemaker. She loved to quilt and sew. Her greatest loves was the Lord, her family, and her church family. She devoted 40 years of care to her granddaughter, Stephanie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Smith; her parents, Clyde and Mary Russell; her brothers, Harold Russell and Edwin Russell; two children, Betty Sue Smith and Wayne Smith and a son-in-law, Johnny Collins.

Survivors include her children, Mary Ann Collins, Judy Gressett, Debra Bufkin (Cayce Wayne), and James Smith (Kristi); two brothers, Edward Russell and Johnny Russell (Denise); three sisters, Edna Jones, Betty Wilson, and Faye Bishop (Wayne); twelve grandchildren, Chris Stamper (Anitrel), Brandy Triplett (Phillip), Miranda Bullock (Bruce), Jason Neese (Kayla), Hannah Gressett, April Walker (Mark), Brian Bufkin (Kalla), Stephanie Smith, Bethanie Cook (Chase), Josh Smith, Reece Regions, and Riley Regions and 19 Great Grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Stamper, Jason Neese, Brian Bufkin, Josh Smith, Johnny Russell, and Bruce Bullock.
