Mrs. Mary Wilson Laing,  age 96, of Newton, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 at her son's home in Cleveland, TN.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at Newton County Funeral Home – North, with services immediately following at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Garlandville Cemetery. Bro. Joe Garvin will officiate.

She was born Sunday, November 13, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of the Newton and Jasper County area. She was a retired supervisor at Newton Company after 42 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Garlandville Methodist Church, where she served as pianist and former Sunday School Teacher. Favorite past times were playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. She always enjoyed being with her family and loved them very much. Bird watching and nature brought enjoyment to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles O. Laing; father, Thomas Wilson;  mother, Maude Kerr Wilson;  brothers, Parks Wilson and Walter Wilson;  sisters, Frances Garvin and Ida Ruth Rattleman.

Survivors include her sons, Walter  Thomas Laing (Yvonne) of Cleveland, TN and Billy Gerald Laing of Brandon, MS;  daughters, Rosemary Robie Hlavac of Flowood, MS and Shirley Ann Collins (Mike) of Newton, MS;  grandchildren, Lisa Brown (Lee) of Brandon, MS and Derek Hlavac (Bridgit) of Madison, MS;  great grandchildren, Braden Brown, Graham Hlavac, Lilly Hlavac and Camp Hlavac; sister, Roberta Garrett of Macon, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Pallbearers will be Bob Rattleman, James Garrett, Bruce Garrett, and Donnie Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Dearing and Raymond Boutwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Garlandville Cemetery Fund, 9776 Eastside Dr. Ext., Newton, MS 39345.
