Obituary

Mary Jo Harris, age 89, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Mrs. Harris was a lifelong resident of Newton County and was a graduate of Beulah Hubbard High School and Meridian Junior College, School of Nursing. She was a nurse by profession, having worked Rush Foundation Hospital. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Rick Harris (Malou) of Hickory, MS and Phil Harris (Peachy) of Hickory, MS; grandchildren, Amanda Whitman (Danny), Melissa Harris, Dylan Harris and Dustin Harris; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Adam, Macey Adam and Ella Whitman; sister-in-law, Syble Addy (Bobby); several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Richard Louis Harris; her parents, Therrel A. and Elma Chaney Crawford and one sister-in-law, Lou Nell Rasmussen (Jim).

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm at Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Thomas Laird officiating., Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matt Addy, Kenny Addy, Steve Felton, Steve Rasmussen, Steve Pugh, and Josh Ethridge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Hicks, Larry Crader, James Otis Swearingen and Arleigh Allen.
