July 16, 1941 – October 20, 2023
Martha Ann Humphreys Brown, age 82, and a resident of the Landmark of Collins, where she was recently voted Miss Landmark of Collins, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, with graveside services immediately following at the Lawrence Cemetery.
Dr. Frank Harmon will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Pugh, Jeff Hardy, Bryan Burt, Nathan Gatlin, John Peters and Chris Craft.
Martha Brown was born Martha Ann Humphreys July 16, 1941. She was born and raised in Newton, MS. After High School and College graduation she worked for companies such as GE and Siemens as the Purchasing/Materials Manager. Martha retired to Florida with her husband, Jerald Brown in 1994. They later returned to Newton to live on Martha's old home place. Martha was a very avid book reader, spending hours enjoying the writing talents of others. Other hobbies included sewing, painting, and planting beautiful plants and vegetables. The old home place became known as The Brown Family Farm and was best known for tomatoes. People drove many miles in hopes of purchasing a good homegrown tomato! She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald Brown; step-son, Nathan Brown; father, M. E. Humphreys; mother, Lucille Thrash Humphreys; brother, Jamie Humphreys; sister, Dorothy Jean Woodham (Bernard).
Survivors include one step-son, Clay Brown (Bonnie) of Braxton; one step-daughter, Lisa Hilton (Wayne) of Mendenhall; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nephews; one niece; two great-nephews and one great-niece; and one sister-in-law, Karen Humphreys of Lawrence.
