Mrs. Marie Heflin Hollingsworth, 91 of Decatur, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025 at J.G. Alexander Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past year.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 3:55 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - North, with funeral services immediately following at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Newton County Memorial Gardens.

Bro. Dewayne Dickerson will officiate.

Mrs. Hollingsworth was a Newton County native and a member of Decatur Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and  spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Lee "Whip" Hollingsworth and Barto Harston Heflin;  father, Perry McElhenney, Sr.;  mother, Evie Marie Smith Langford;  brother, Perry McElhenney, Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Heflin (Debbie) of Wilmer, AL and Stan Heflin (Rhonda) of Louisville; one daughter, Dana Heflin Vance (Curtis) of Decatur;  four grandchildren, Libby Culpepper (Jackie), Jesse Vance, Ashton Culpepper (Kiley) and Todd McLelland (Jennifer); eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Polly McElhenney of Union.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Culpepper, Westin Culpepper, Jesse Vance, Kiley Culpepper, Todd McLelland and Logan McLelland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Uriah-Kooper Culpepper and Dawson Culpepper.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 297, Newton, or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
