Marcus Shivers was a son, spouse, father, papaw, uncle, friend, and servant for the Lord in his lifetime. He was born in Meridian, MS and graduated high school from Central Hinds in Jackson, MS. He joined the Air Force and became an aircraft mechanic with the 375th Bomb Squadron at Hunter Air Force Base, Savannah, Georgia. After 4 years of service, he got out and attended Hinds Community College. His next step in life was marrying sweet Addie Ruth Stamper and together they created a Christian family of three girls in Pearl, MS.
One of Marcus's great memories growing up was working in his grandfather's store making flour and preparing the corn to be sold to the neighbors while his father taught him the trade of carpentry. He learned at an early age a good work ethic, but in his free time enjoyed fishing. When he got married he worked with Ross & Richards as Vice President and a pilot. Next, he moved to Cross Country Warehouse store in Pearl, MS, then on to RW Distributors in Pearl, MS. His last job was as a truck driver and during this time in his life his wife came down with Alzheimer's at the age of 49. This was during the time the medical field was actually discovering this disease. Our dad took a step of faith, quit his job, moved them back to where she grew up. She was able to live out the rest of her life at home. After her death he married kind Inez Blackburn Williams of Newton, MS and she passed away from cancer six years later. He remained in Newton, MS until December 2022 at which time he entered the VA Home in Kosciusko of his own free will at 89 years old and stayed until he passed in his sleep on July 14, 2024.
Our dad was a man of integrity and through all the hardships of life never lost his Christian faith and his trust in GOD. He loved people and wanted them to enjoy the life in Christ that he had. He was involved in church as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, treasurer. He built ramps for numerous people who were wheelchair/walker bound, he was a Gideon, and he checked on the elderly who lived around him. When the choir director was absent, he led the singing; he loved singing in the choir and singing solos in church. He consistently visited the sick and the lost. He was truly concerned that people would know our creator, our loving God. He was part of Campers on Missions which built and repaired churches in Mississippi. Our dad was involved and supported us girls throughout our lives. He was on the school board, in charge of band concessions, chaperoned band trips, and drove the instrument truck. Our dad lived the fruit of the Spirit which are love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control, and faithfulness. The greatest one for our dad was the faithfulness he had through all the hardships that come with life. He knew God would always be there in his life helping him navigate through it until He called him home. Our father's life was full of blessings, and he in turn blessed many lives.
The family requests casual attire for the celebration of life.
