Lorene Cornett Chaney, 91, of Hickory, MS passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS. She was born Wednesday, October 21, 1925 in Hickory, MS.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 9, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home - North in Newton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory, MS with a 1 hour visitation prior to service time. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Hickory, MS. Bro. Thomas Laird and Bro. Roger Laird will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements. Miss Lorene was a devoted member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She was an excellent wife and mother who dearly loved her family. She had many hobbies including sewing, gardening, cooking and playing RummiKub. She mastered the art of making fried apple pies and growing roses. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her Husband - Cobert B. Chaney, Father - Charley Walton Cornett, Mother - Talitha Long Cornett Hurst; Brothers- J.C. Cornett (Janie), William H. Cornett (Christine); Sisters - Grace McGee (Melton), Esther Everett (Robert), Elizabeth Chaney (Bernard) and Evelyn Chaney (Walter Ray).

Survivors include Daughters: Joyce C. Powell (Jimmy), Ward, AL, Rebecca Chaney, Meridian, MS; Grandchildren: Christy P. Aldridge (John) and Stephen D. Powell (Margaret); Great Grandchildren - John Thomas Aldridge, Anna Beth Aldridge, Caroline Powell and Milly Powell; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be William B. Chaney, Charles R. Everett, Jerry Everett, John Feroe, Langford Knight and Larry Crader.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Gibson, Bobby Pugh, Arleigh Allen, Kent Bishop, Richard Harris and Bobby Caldwell,

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church and Gideons International.
