Lonnie Green, Sr., 67 of Newton, MS passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at his home in Newton, MS. He was born Monday, October 10, 1955 in Meridian, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home - South (100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, MS). Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home - South in Newton, MS with a visitation being held two hours prior to service time. Burial will follow at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, Mississippi. Father Adolfo Suarez-Pasillas will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements (601) 635-3200.
Mr. Lonnie Green, Sr. graduated from Newton High School and joined the United States Army. He has been married for 42 years with 4 children and 2 step children, and numerous grandchildren including a great grandson. He served over 15 year on active duty at various locations, such as Hawaii, Kansas, Alabama, Germany. He returned back to Newton, MS after he ETS'd from the military. He then served as a Custodial/Supervisor for various jobs for over 10 years. He loved to help people, especially the elderly. He and his son started doing landscaping together. He loved spending time with his wife, grandchildren, kids, and fixing things.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Green; mother, Bessie Mae Norman Green; and sister, Kizzie Thompson.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Darlene May Green of Newton, MS; son, Lonnie A. Green, Jr. of Newton; daughters, Maranda L. Green of Huntsville, AL, Yvonne K. McNair of El Paso, TX and Jasmine C. Green, of Newton; step-daughters, Tisha L. Torres and Teresa J. Torres; 12 Grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; brother, Felix Green; sisters, Evone Pruitt, Lenora Green Nettles and Elenora Green Siler, and Ruby Nell Stokes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
