Funeral services for James Buntyn will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Newton County Funeral Home North Chapel.

Inurnment will follow in the Newton County Memorial Gardens at a later date.

James Ollie "Junior" Buntyn, 70, passed away at his townhouse in downtown Decatur in the early hours of December 16, 2023. In life, Junior ran his own paint, frame, and body shop for over two decades prior to becoming a dedicated employee of the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 23 years, retiring in 2008 at the age of 55. He was southern Baptist by faith, and enjoyed tinkering with vehicles, working with heavy machinery, and drinking coffee with his cousin, Margaret.

Mr. Buntyn is survived by his daughter, Allena Kay Brown (David); grandchildren River Carter (Kirsten), Leto Drury, and Isabella Brown; two great-grandchildren Xannon and Rilynn-Kayte Carter; nieces Allison Dearing and Bridgett Key (Jimmy); special friends Jeannie Jones and Mr. Richard Wilson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Johnson and James Ollie "Sonny" Buntyn; his older sister, Dianne Johns; his son Kirk Buntyn; and life partner Addie Warren.

Brad Taylor will officiate the service and honorary pall bearers will be Ricky Spears, Bruce Snowden, Murray McElhenney and
Richard Wilson.

Newton County Funeral Home, North, 9998 Hwy. 15 N, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.
