Juanita Everett Williams, 93, went home to be with her Lord on January 1, 2024.
She was born in Walnut Grove, MS on October 16, 1930 to T.L. and Edna Everett. She spent much of her early life in Braxton, MS, and then Columbia, MS, where her father was superintendent of the Mississippi Industrial Training School. Her family moved to Newton in 1948 and she finished high school at Newton High School. She attended Clarke College and then Mississippi College, receiving a degree in elementary education. Her first job was teaching second grade in Indianola, MS. She also taught in Meridian, and then in New Orleans where she lived with her sister Nell and her family. While teaching in Meridian, she lived with Sara Williams, a high school friend, who introduced her to her brother Hillman when he returned home in 1955 from serving in the Navy. They married in 1957 and made their home in Newton. They were married for over 50 years. Juan began teaching at Clarke College in 1968 and retired in 1992. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society and was inducted into the inaugural Clarke College Hall of Fame in 2021. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Newton, MS, for 66 years and served on many committees, in the library, and as teacher for many years to her beloved Fidelis Sunday School class.
She is survived by her only surviving sister, Ann Sumners; her three children, Rachel Jacobson (Joe), Carol Stringer (Chris), and Doug Williams (Sandra) as well as six grandchildren, Lee Stringer (Noel), Jack Stringer, Lauren McWilliams (Keith), Michael Jacobson (Katelyn), Anna Clare Williams and Sara Grace Williams, in addition to four great- grandchildren, Riley Stringer, James Ellis McWilliams, Heidi McWilliams, and Winston Jacobson. She is also survived by many much loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Sue, Nell, and Nai Nai, her brother John, and her husband, Ellis Hillman Williams.
The family would like to thank her many faithful friends in Newton for their love and prayers through her long illness. Special thanks are also due to the staff at Edgewood Nursing Home for their loving care.
Memorials may be made to the Edna Norman Everett Scholarship Fund at Mississippi College or to the Missions fund at First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 87, Newton, MS 39345.
A service celebrating the life of Juanita Everett Williams will begin at 10:30 am on Friday, the 12th of January, 2024, from the First Baptist Church of Newton, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
