Funeral services for Johnny Wilbur Walker will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Hickory Baptist Church. Masonic rites and the graveside service will follow in the Hickory Cemetery under the direction of Newton County Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Walker was a native of Hickory, born March 29, 1930. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County, a graduate of Hickory High School and a member of Hickory Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Trustee. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed the outdoors and being a part of God's creation. Extensive travels were enjoyed with his friends from the church, near and far, and fun times were had by all. He will be missed by his friends and family. Mr. Walker passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the Bee Hive Homes of Newton, where he had been a resident the last three months at the age of 93.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pam Boyette (Billy Joe);  his parents,  Johnny Walker and Beatrice Leigh Walker, and one sister, Joan Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Grace Motley Walker of Hickory; three sons,  Don Walker (Debra Jo) of Chunky, Johnny Howard Walker (Debbie) of Hickory and Tommy Walker (Joan) of Hickory;  eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Ruth Arnold of Meridian; several nieces and nephews.
