Obituary

Funeral services for Johnny Coleman Stevens will be 2 P.M. , on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Newton County Funeral Home – South Chapel with Bro. Wayne Napier officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in the Hero Community.

Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the funeral home.

Mr. Stevens, 58, of Newton, died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Johnny enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed Southern Miss Football games, enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR events, fishing, beach vacations, and just spending time outdoors. He was a member of Newton United Methodist Church. He was a former employee of La-Z- Boy South for 17 years and most recently employed at MDOT at Newton for five years.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years: Coleen C. Stevens of Newton; one son: Brian Stevens and his wife Vaneesa of Lake; one daughter: Brittany Gryner and husband Chris of Lauderdale; two grandchildren: Alexa Gryner and Zane Stevens, and one grandson on the way: one sister: Linda Massey and husband Charles of Chunky; his mother in law: Kathleen Caldwell Gibbs of Newton; one sister in law: Cheryl Caldwell of Newton; and one nephew: Damien Massey of Chunky.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Lenard O. and Amy Stevens; his grandmother: Lavada Cleveland, and his father in law: James W. Caldwell.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Gryner, Joe Way, David Carr, Jason Boyd, Howard Crenshaw, and Mark Killens.
