John G. Weatherford, Sr., 86 of Newton, MS, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest, MS.

Funeral services will be held at: 2:30 PM, on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Newton United Methodist Church in Newton, MS with Rev. Ed Saunders and Dr. Scott Fortenberry officiating.

Burial will be in Newton Masonic Cemetery, Newton, MS.

Mr. Weatherford enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and watching sports. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. In 1967 he founded a family petroleum distributorship company in Newton, MS. In 1978, John G. Weatherford, Inc. moved to Forest, MS. He enjoyed spending time with family and at church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Wall Weatherford, his parents, George Lamar and Maude Elizabeth Roberts Weatherford, and two sisters, Elizabeth Bonds and Nell Smith.

Survivors include John Weatherford, Jr and wife Dale, grandsons John G. Weatherford, III and Jason Weatherford.

Pallbearers are L.M. "Bubba" Bonds, David Kerr, Keith Wolfe, Ray Gibson, Van Lucas, Robert Logan, Ed Stanley and Ronnie Nicholson. Honorary Pallbearers include Bruce Dickerson, Jody Covington and Terry McDaniel.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM at Newton County South.
