Joey Gressett,  age 51, and a resident of Newton, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025 at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South in 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Liberty Baptist Church of Newton. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Cemetery.

Bro. Mark McDonald, Bro. Steven Wade, and Bro. Bobby Barfoot will officiate.

Joey was born Thursday, February 15, 1973, and was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He served the people of Jasper County and Newton County in law enforcement for 27 years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and Christian by testimony of his faith.

Survivors include his father, Larry Gressett (Minnie), his mother, Janice  Scoggin Gressett, two brothers, Jamie  Gressett and Justin Gressett (Suzanne) all of Newton; one niece, Abigail Gressett; two step-brothers, Kevin Bentley (Kristina) and Keith Bentley (Ashley) both of Rose Hill;  two aunts, and a host of cousins; his special friend, who he considered a brother, Darrin Hathorn of Newton, also survives.

Pallbearers will be Josh Walker, Jeremy Pinson, Ben Ivy, Patrick Edwards, Brandon Johnson, and Frank Spurlin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Newton County Sheriff`s Department and Jasper County Sheriff's Department.

Service music will be provided by Mr. Clint Walker.
