JoAnn Monk, age 74, passed away on May 16, 2018 at her son's home in Arizona. JoAnn was born in Newton, MS to Tennis and Maggie Thornton.

JoAnn was a hard working, God fearing Christian and dedicated mother for her two sons and family. She always helped her friends in need putting others before herself. She will be missed by her family, friends and all that knew her.

She is survived by sons, Mason Monk ( Gaylene ) and Mike Monk (Carolyn); brothers, Buddy Thornton and David Thornton; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tennis and Maggie Thornton; sisters, Linda Mann and Martha Nell Sanderson and infant daughter.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home-South. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 10:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home-South with Bro. David Thornton officiating. Burial will follow at Beat Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Conehatta , Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Mike Monk, Mason Monk, David Garvin , Lester Reed, Brian Hall and Scott Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or American Cancer Society.
