Jewel L. Phillips Carr, 92, of Lawrence, MS died Friday, July 29, 2016 at Bedford Care Center in Newton, MS. She was born Monday, September 10, 1923 in Louin, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held August 6, 2016 at 11:00AM at Newton County Funeral Home- North with visitation beginning two hours prior to services. Burial will follow in Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Lawrence, MS. Bro. Larry Laird will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements. (601)635-3200
Often seen in her career in retail sales she was rarely caught without a big smile on her face and ready to share one with her family and friends. She loved working in her yard, vegetable garden and her flowers. She especially loved the hummingbirds that visited her every year. Music, crossword puzzles, and sewing were her favorite past times along with cooking. She also loved a good basketball or football game! While facing deteriorating health and mobility she resided in nursing homes for the last eight and a half years.
She is preceded in death by her: Parents - Ed Phillips and Alice Williams Phillips, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters, and loving husband James W. Carr with whom she shared a marriage of 66 years.
Pallbearers will be: Lucas Carr, Justin Adcock, Jamie Tucker, Brad Stephens, Brent Barnett and Paul Barnett.
Survivors include her: Son - William R. Carr (Patti) of Lawrence, MS, Daughter - Barbara Barnett of Palm Harbor, FL, with 5 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren.
