Obituary

Mr. Jerry Johnson, age 73, passed away on December 18, 2017 at his home in Decatur.

Jerry was born in Meridian, MS to Vernon Johnson and Alice Johnson. Jerry married Helen Johnson of Decatur, Mississippi on June 29, 1963.

Jerry was a hard worker and retired from La-Z-boy after 44 years. Jerry was a faithful member of Sand Springs Baptist Church and he served as a deacon for 44 years. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry's favorite past time was fishing. He will be truly missed by family, friends and all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Helen Johnson; son, Eugene Johnson (Robin); daughter, Ranee Chenoweth (Rick); 8 grandchildren, Josh Johnson; Krysten Varner (Justin); Jordin Tabb (Mason); Josi Johnson; Ricky Chenoweth; Tony Chenoweth (Chelsea); Sydney Kennedy; and Shelby Kennedy; 5 Great Grandchildren; brother, David "Bubba" Johnson (Lynda); Sisters, Peggy Boyd, Patsy Litchfield, Mary Stevens, and Veronica Hollis. Special Niece, Hope Bounds (Paul); Special Nephew, Kent Addy (Sarah); 2 special great nieces and one special great nephew.

He was preceded in death by parents, Vernon and Alice Johnson; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, 20th of December, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home-South.

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Johnson will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home-South with Bro. Glenn Hayman, Sr. and Bro. Jackie Strebeck officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Hickory, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Chad Stevens, Jason Boyd, Johnny Johnson, Anthony Gibbon, Andrew Cooley and Aaron Cooley.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the deacons of Sand Springs Baptist Church and his special friend George Dean.

Jerry's favorite charity was the Sand Springs Baptist Church Youth Fund.
