Jamie Dewitt Humphreys, 81, of Lawrence, Mississippi, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at his residence in Lawrence, Mississippi. He was born Thursday, December 31, 1936 in Lawrence, MS.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home North with graveside services to follow at Lawrence Community Cemetery. Bro Victor Buggs will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 635-3200
Jamie attended Lawrence School and graduated from Newton High School in 1954. He enlisted in the Navy and spent his time on submarines traveling the world and learning to decode. After leaving the Navy he earned a BS degree in Business and Economics from the University of South Alabama in June 1967. His degree was one of eighty-eight received during the new university's first commencement. Combining his coding skills acquired in the Navy with his business knowledge, he created business systems to help streamline several companies over three decades. He left the business world to go back to his home in the country and it is there where he found the most pleasure. He spent many years enjoying the prairie that he loved; gardening, hunting, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M.E. and Lucille Thrash Humphreys; sister, Dorothy Jean Humphreys Woodham and brothers-in-law, Bernard Woodham and Jerald Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Karen Clark Humphreys; two children and their families, Jim Humphreys (Tracey) of Gulfport, MS; their children and grandchildren: Magan Humphreys Reede (Tony), Bella and Zoey of Enterprise, AL; David Lassister (Tonya), Jondavid, Joseph, and Jackson of Abbeville, LA; Jaqueline Lassiter Hutson (Max), Emery and Eliana of Youngsville, LA and Lori Humphreys Gatlin (Darrell) of Meridian, MS; their child: Nathan Gatlin of Jackson, MS; sister, Martha Ann Humphreys Brown, Collins, MS; parents-in-law, L.D. and Ruth Clark of Philadelphia, MS; sister-in-law, Kathy Clark Brittain (Mike), McKinney, TX; niece, Brandy Brittain Young(Chris), McKinney, TX and nephew, Wayne Woodham, Homer, LA.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
