"Jake" spent his childhood years in Lauderdale, Mississippi, but later moved to Monroe, Louisiana, and graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He married Patsy Ashley on September 11, 1959. The happy couple moved to their forever home, Newton, in 1964, where they would raise their only daughter, Tina. Jake was a man of faith and lived his life in service to others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton. He retired from a career at Tower Finance after 50 years.
One might describe Jake as a "jack of all trades." A photographer for the local newspaper, a dance instructor for Arthur Murray School of Dance, and even an artist. His talents spanned far and wide.
A lover of adventure and flight, in the 1960's he became a licensed pilot. Jake enjoyed the camaraderie of the flight club and the many hours he spent above the clouds. Equally speaking, the simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jake. He spent time in the vegetable garden and was an avid reader. He especially treasured the moments he shared with his closest friends outdoors: camping, hunting, and fishing. No matter the circumstances, Jake always found a way to make others smile, most often in the form of a joke. As a husband, father, and grandfather, Jake worked tirelessly to give his family every opportunity to chase their dreams and live a life filled with happiness. His unwavering love was a guiding light. His legacy is one of kindness, empathy, and generosity of spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ashley "Pat" Vaughn; parents, James Kimble Vaughn, and Mary Jane Vaughn of Monroe, LA.
Survivors include his daughter, Tina Willard (Wayne); granddaughter, Ashley Walters- Faulkner (Joe Brock); great-granddaughter, Bella James Faulkner; and Aunt, Gladys Stewart.
Pallbearers will be Steve Horne, Tommy Horne, Hunter Horne, Jeff Horne, Chris Weems, Kirk Weems, and Hoop Weems.
Honorary pallbearer will be Buddy Weems.
