"Hoss" Hoskins
June 16, 1967 – August 23, 2021
Commander James Brian "Hoss" Hoskins, age 54, was born on June 16, 1967 in Wilmington, OH. He was a graduate of Little Miami High School in Morrow, OH and of Auburn University in Auburn, AL. He passed away on August 23, 2021 at Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, August 27 at Newton County Funeral Home – South in Newton, MS with Bro. Chris Shelton officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Mississippi Veteran's Cemetery in Newton, MS. There will be no public visitation prior to the service.
Jim was a decorated military veteran. He served 22 years as a Navy carrier pilot with over 8 deployments, including two with the British Royal Navy. Since his retirement in 2011, he has worked as a civilian contractor for the military as a supervising flight instructor at the Naval Air Station Meridian. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union, MS. and a man of genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jim's proudest accomplishment was his family, he adored his family and they adored him. His dry wit, sense of humor and his gentle touch may for now be gone but they will never be forgotten.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Marla Silvey Hoskins; parents, James & Joanne Hoskins; children Seth Duane Bruce, Samantha Jo Hoskins Thomas (Jacob), Kyle James Hoskins (Kailyn), Shelby Renea Hoskins Allen (Michael), Parker Brian Hoskins, Caroline Elizabeth Hoskins and Micah Robert Hoskins; grandchildren Katie Jo Thomas, Mason Tyler Thomas, Piper Jane Thomas, James Clay Allen and one special granddaughter expected soon; sisters Jennifer Jo Long (George) and Jessica Erin Davila (Matt); father and mother-in-law, Duf and Edie Silvey; brother-in-law, Mark Silvey (Amber), and 7 nieces and nephews.
