Jackie F. Smith, 74 of Newton, died Monday, September 9, 2013 at his home in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. , on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church, South of Newton , with Rev. Mark Kilgore officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. - 7 P.M. at Newton County Funeral Home - South on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, and thirty minutes before the funeral on Wednesday at the church.
He was born in Meridian and moved to Pascagoula where he graduated from high school. He served 21 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Sargeant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He also worked at Citizens National Bank in Meridian as a purchasing and supply clerk. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He and Mrs. Lou enjoyed traveling and camping together.
Survivors include his wife: Lou S. Smith of Newton; three children: Cindy Watson of Shreveport, LA; Christina Edwins of Panama City, FL; Jennifer Jackson of Texas; three step children: Linda Thomas of Newton; Malcolm Sharp of Colarodo Springs, CO; Hugh Sharp of Newton; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Billy Ray Smith of Georgia; Terry Wayne Smith of MS Gulf Coast; several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Christopher and Ruby Rasberry Smith, and one son: Robert Smith.
Pallbearers will be U.S. Military Personnel.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Clay Rose, Tim Bounds, Jim Mason, Virgil Williams, Donald Thomas, and Jerry Garrison.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
