Obituary

Irma Jean Porter was born February 15, 1934 to Clifford and Classie Blalock in Decatur, Mississippi.

Irma Jean attended T. J. Harris High School in Meridian Mississippi.

Irma Jean and held a variety of careers over the years while she lived in Newton and in other states.  She was a dedicated member and Sunday school teacher at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She ran her own daycare center for many years and enjoyed working with kids.  She worked as a Nursing assistant and Phlebotomist at Newton County Hospital for many years until she retired.    She was known by just about everyone in Newton and had a host of friends.  She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was an avid reader who loved books.

Irma was called home on August 5, 2021.

Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Cliff Contense and Classie Annie (Norman) Blalock; her brothers Wilson and Clifton(Jack) Blalock, sisters Ida Lee Slater, Mamie Lou Williams, Bettye Ruth Polk, Mattie Lois Garrett, Melia Lou Lewis , and Catherine Gill Windham

Irma leaves to cherish her memory her son; James Porter, her sister Mary Beth Maples; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, at Newton County Funeral Home South.  Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 10:00 am, at Greenwood M.B. Church in Decatur, MS.
