Iris Lofton, 92, of Newton, Mississippi, died Sunday, January 12, 2020, at Anderson's Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi. She was born Thursday, November 3, 1927 in Newton County Mississippi.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home-South, 100 Old Hwy 15 Loop, Newton, MS 39345. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will be in Conehatta Cemetery. Bro. William Savell will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Iris was a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, a talented seamstress who could make a dress or fix a hem, and "Nanny" who crocheted or made a quilt for every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a green thumb, always saving seeds and growing plants and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Grace Smiley; her sister, Louise Walker and her brother, James Smiley.

Survivors include her children, Gary Lofton (Maureen) and Joan Wells; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Welch, Scott Welch, Cole Massey, Brent Lofton, Adam Lofton, and Gabe Lofton.
