Harlan H. Jones, aged 86, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Neshoba General Hospital. He was born Friday, May 26, 1939 in Philadelphia at the family homeplace.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation in the chapel. Burial will be in North Bend Community Cemetery in Neshoba County.
Rev. Gary Morris, Chaplain and Rev. William Savell will officiate.
Mr. Jones will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved life and loved people, and was retired owner to the family business, Newton Discount Tire. He loved the outdoors, where he was an avid fisherman, and often told "I've caught so many fish that they wouldn't fit in a large room." The family is grateful for his longevity, and the legacy he has left behind. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Cora Mae Long Jones; four brothers, Elgin Jones, Ray Jones (Bonnie), Jimmy Jones and Infant Ronnie Jones; two sisters, Elvie Moore (George) and Helen Price (Ozell) and three brothers-in-law, Louie Barrett, Robert Earl Dean, and Roger Jordan (Minzie) and one sister-in-law, Ardell Macon.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Nancy Jordan Jones of Decatur; three sons, Marc Jones (Lisa) and Barry Jones (Lisa), both of Decatur, and Terry Jones (Tammye) of Philadelphia; one daughter, Michelle Buckley (Terry) of Decatur; five grandchildren, Chris Jones, Josh Pender, Axie Vowell, Chase Jones and Keely Jones; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Zelma Barrett of Hattiesburg; two sisters-in-law, Anna Jones of Philadelphia and Velma Dean of Little Rock; one brother-in-law, J.T. Macon of West Columbia, TX; a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kent Barrett, Keith Barrett, Burlon Russell, Zack Harrison, Robbie Jones, Josh Pender, and Chase Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Jones and Stevie Gentry.
The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation Accent Hospice Care, namely Chaplain Gary Morris, Nurse Christie Malbrough, and CNA Ashley Moore.
