Fred Calvin Harris, 89 of Florence, MS, passed away on April 20, 2018.
Fred was born on May 22, 1928, to Joseph Jay and Hattie Harris. He was a chef at the Green Derby for over 30 years. He then went into pest control, working with Dependable Pest in Jackson and Havard Pest in Gulfport where he retired at the age of 84.
He was an avid hunter, he loved the outdoors and mostly spending time with the family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Jessie and Hubert Harris and sister, Polly Walker.
He is survived by his son, Freddy (Charlene) Harris and daughter Betty Brown (Edwin Sandifer). Grandsons, Joseph Kelly, Justin Harris and Trace Smith. He had five great-grandchildren. Brothers, Hulon and Sam Harris, sisters, Mary Annie Aycock, Dot Sandifer, Bobbie Jo Morris and Bonnie Woods.
The visitation will be Monday, April 23, 2018 at Newton County Funeral Home – North from 10:00 am – 11:45 am with service at 12:00. Bro. Johnny Crosby will be officiating. Burial to follow at Concord Cemetery in Rose Hill. Friends and family are asked to join us at Hopewell Methodist Church following burial.
Serving as pallbearers Edwin Sandifer, Sam Sandifer, David Morris, Joe Morris, Billy Walker, Jimmy Walker, Jason Adams, Sammy Aycock, Craig Youngblood, and Jim Youngblood.
