Frances Coker Wilson died October 21, 2015, in Tyler, Texas. Affectionately known as "Mom Mom" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was a resident at The Heights of Tyler nursing home.
Frances was born January 19, 1926, in Newton, Mississippi to Fannie and Willie Coker. In November, 1945, she married Parks Kerr Wilson, the joyful beginning of a 60 year journey together. The couple had three children, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Frances joined the Garlandsville Methodist Church in the early 1960's and remained a faithful member throughout her life.
When her husband received orders to Germany, Frances dutifully followed. Hitching a ride with her older brother Lewis and his wife, Sadie, Frances took her two young children, Fonda (2 years of age) and Donnie (6 months of age) to New York City to board a ship bound for Germany. The trip took two weeks, during which Frances was sea sick the entire voyage. Following a 2 year tour of duty, the couple returned to the U.S. They lived in Arkansas, North Carolina, and Alabama, returning to Newton in 1962 when Parks retired after 21 years of service.
One of Frances' greatest passions in life was her love of cooking. She had several scrapbooks and notebooks filled with recipes. She was well known for her original dishes, passing her techniques and cooking secrets down to her children and grandchildren.
