Frances Eugenia Wilson Garvin, 102 of Newton, MS passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest, MS. She was born Friday, August 15, 1919 in Jasper County, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at Newton County Funeral Home - North in Newton, MS with funeral services immediately following in the chapel. Burial will follow at Newton County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jonathan Spears will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements 601-635-3200.
Frances was born shortly after the end of World War I. Although she witnessed a century of change and innovation, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Frances had a reputation for cooking delicious meals, and everyone was welcome at her table. She also enjoyed gardening, needlework, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Frances was a member of the Newton United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending various club meetings in the Newton community. The Lord blessed her with a large family whom she loved dearly. Throughout her life, Frances displayed many characteristics of the Proverbs 31 woman as she served her family with determination and a 'can do' spirit. Her family and friends have been richly blessed by her wonderful example.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Z.J. Garvin; son, Thomas Zach Garvin; father, Thomas Eugene Wilson; mother, Maude Slack Kerr Wilson; brothers, Parks Wilson and Walter Wilson; sister, Ruth Rattelman; grandchildren, John M. Garvin, Jr. and Lucas Paul LeBlanc.
Survivors include her son, John M. Garvin; daughters, Linda Kirby and Betty LeBlanc; sisters, Mary Laing and Roberta Garrett; and 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sam T. Weir, Billy LeBlanc, Zach LeBlanc, Walter Brand Jr., Wilson Brand, William Brand, Aaron Brown, and Andrew Weir.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Spears and Jon Thomas Spears.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
