Funeral services for Susie Blackburn will begin at 12:00 pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Newton County Funeral Home - North, with burial to follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Rose Hill.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Friday at the funeral home and continue until service time.

Bro. Steve Pouncey will officiate the service, and pallbearers will be Josh Walker, Ethan Smith, Johnny Moulds, Shawn Henry, Michael Moulds, and Chad Simoneau.

Florence Ruby Blackburn affectionately known as "Susie" dubbed by her daddy, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 25,2026 at her home in Union. Born to Clayton and Marguerite Pollander Walker, the middle of seven children, in Denver, CO, Susie was retired from La-Z-Boy South in Newton after seventeen years of service.

For twenty-six years, she was married to Curtis Blackburn, who preceded her in death. She was mother to five children, four survive and one precedes her in death, Danny (Marlenn) Simoneau of Louin; Sarah Addy (Kent) and Allen (Barbara) Simoneau, both of Decatur and David Simoneau (Sonya) of Georgia; ten grandchildren, Chad Simoneau (Caitlyn) and Thomas Henry, both of Decatur; Kelli Moulds (Johnny) of Union; Keli Barrett of Hickory; Brittany Smith (Ethan) of Forest; Shelby Addy of Decatur; Robert Simoneau (B.J.) of Georgia; Roger Simoneau and Ashley Imperial (Joe) both of North Carolina and Kim Lowe of Georgia; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Chuck Walker (Brigette) of California; Butch Walker, Laura Slayton (Ted) and Carol (Lloyd) Polk, all of Meridian, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Braswell, one grandson, Kurt Simoneau, and two sisters, Sharon Allen and Sarah McInnis.

Favorite past times were gardening and tending to flowers and enjoying God's beautiful creation. She was a wonderful cook, remembered especially for her banana nut bread and chocolate pies. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed following the music genre of Elvis, "The King of Rock and Roll," and country music star, Ricky Van Shelton. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
