Graveside services for Mrs. Lela Faye Boyd will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 10:30 am at Newton County Memorial Gardens. Interment will follow the graveside rites. Johnny Russell, her grandson-in-law, will preside over the service.
Lela Faye Jones was born Wednesday, February 8, 1933 in Walnut Grove to her parents, the late Sam L. and Lela Tatum Jones. Some of her fondest memories and pastimes were raising cows and hogs, working at the movie theater, listening to music, singing hymns, watching the grand ole opera and westerns, sewing and quilting, cooking, gardening, she was a great shot with a rifle, and doing things her way. Times were not always easy but she had a quick mind that that she used to make it better. By personal testimony of her faith in the Lord Jesus, she confirmed she was "ready to leave this world." She passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the Bedford Care Center of Newton at the age of 91. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was the mother of four children: Brenda Embrey (Charlie deceased), Teresa Gay (Dan), (Earl Boyd deceased and Junior Boyd deceased); six grandchildren: Thomas James, Brenda Russell (Johnny), Johnny James (Grace) Daniel Gay, Jessica Boyd, Jason Boyd, deceased; nine great-grandchildren: Seth Garrett, John Thomas James, Myleighla James, Ethan Russell, Kiley Russell, Destiny Gay, Connor James, Abby James, Wesley Gay.; many nieces and nephews
She was the last surviving child of her parents, preceding her in death were her siblings, Ray Jones, Herman Jones, Beth Willis, Cloneil Jones Miley, Larry Jones, and Jim Jones, who gave his life for his country during World War II, during the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Many special friends from Bedford Care Center are left behind, especially Ricky Hocutt and Jerry Keeton.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Russell, Ethan Russell, Michael Kinard, Johnny Russell Sr., William "Porky" Jones, and Elijah Johnson.
Newton County Funeral Home - North, 9998 Hwy. 15 N., Newton, is in charge of arrangements.
