On January 17, 2020 the angels sang and heaven's gates opened to welcome Emma Lucille Gibbon into the Kingdom of God.
Emma Lucille Gibbon was born December 1, 1927 to Otho and Emma Coker.
Church and family were always her priority. An active Mt Vernon Baptist Church member, she served in many capacities: WMU Leader and Director, Sunday School Teacher and Director, Master Life, Discipleship Training Leadership teacher, VBS Director, and many others not listed.
Lucille's faith came first, which fully equipped her to be the rock she was for her family and friends. She had the most beautiful heart and always treated everyone with such love and kindness. She was an inspiration to many. She was beloved. To a life well-lived, welcome home Emma Lucille Gibbon.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home-North. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Wayne Hemmingway and Bro. Steve Pouncey will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 635-3200
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Billy Bryan Gibbon; her parents, Otho and Emma Coker; and a son, Bryan Gibbon.
Survivors include her sons, Keith Gibbon (Judy) and Wayne Johnson (Jennifer); her daughters, Cynda Barfield (Wick), Rita Gibbon, and Cheryl Dubose (Phillip); grandchildren, Matt Gibbon, Seth Gibbon, Trea Barfield, Garrett Dubose, Tami Carlisle, Kerry Hutchinson, Stephanie Gibbon, Grace Johnson, and Paige Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jackson Gibbon, Alex Laird, Kimber Barfield, Taylor Scharer, Landrey Godwin, Joseph Hutchinson, Anna Claire Hutchinson, Sydney Brown, Rylee Brown, and Walter Brown; one great-great-grandchild, Liam Scharer; one sister, Juanita Estes.
Pallbearers will be Matt Hutchinson, Phillip Bubose, Wick Barfield, Garrett Dubose, Matt Gibbon, Seth Gibbon, and Trea Barfield.
