February 5, 1923 – February 13, 2024
Mrs. Ella Elizabeth Hollingsworth, age 101, and a longtime resident of the Macedonia Community, near Decatur, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton with funeral services immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Elder Hilton Moore and Elder Josh King will officiate.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was a Methodist by testimony of her faith and faithfully attended Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, where she was very active and also volunteered with her late husband to care for church and cemetery grounds. She was also a retired bookkeeper with the Newton County Gin, where her husband also worked for many years. The Hollingsworths loved farming, gardening and working outdoors which contributed to a long life together.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Norman Wilson Hollingsworth.; son, Norman Wilson Hollingsworth, Jr.; father, John Walter Sims, Sr.; mother, Ella Foreman Sims; sisters, Bonnie Jean Munn, Edna Gandy, Katie Sue Watts and Jessie Jenkins and brothers, Charles Sims, James Sims, John Sims and Billy Sims.
Survivors include her sister, Tressie Sims Courtney of Bassfield, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Munn, M.L. King, Ronnie Hollingsworth, Gary Hollingsworth, Gary Gilmore, Gary Tune, and Archie Scarborough.
The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation the administration, directors, and staff of J.G. Alexander Nursing Home for their professional care for the last six years, as well as to the staff of Anderson Regional Medical Center and the professional services provided by Gentiva Hospice during these last days.
