Funeral services for Edna Ruth Prince Paschal will be 1 P.M. , on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Newton County Funeral Home - South with Dr. Brian Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Newton Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Paschal, 85 of Newton, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Woodland Court Retirement Center.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Newton. She graduated from Newton High School, East Central Junior College, and University of Southern Mississippi. She met her husband, Jim when he was a student here at Clarke Memorial College. She taught fifth grade at Newton Elementary School, and many of her students fondly remember her. A qualification to exit her fifth grade class was the recitation of the poem "Daffodils" by Wordsworth. She was known as a "singer", piano teacher, and using these talents for weddings and funerals in the local area for many years. She was also Music Director at the Newton United Methodist Church for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her two daughters during their "growing up" years. She also enjoyed painting and was a fabulous cook. She was Christian and strong believer in her faith.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years: James C. Paschal; two daughters: Kay Paschal Freeman, and husband Carroll Freeman, Jr., of Atlanta, GA and Jan P. Guyse, and husband Clyde Guyse of Pearl; three grandchildren: William "Will" Clyde Guyse, and wife: Crystal Guyse of Brandon; Grant Paschal Guyse of Nashville, TN; and Adam Matthew Freeman of Atlanta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Ollie and Annie Ruth Robinson Prince.
Pallbearers: Grant Guyse, Will Guyse, Adam Freeman, Clyde Guyse, Carroll Freeman, and Tommy Harthcock, Jr.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. - 12:50 P.M. at the fuenral home on Saturday.
