Obituary

Edgar "Hot" Dulane Cumberland, 80, of Newton, Mississippi, died Monday, September 16, 2019, at University Medical Center. He was born Saturday, December 24, 1938 in Bond, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Newton. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Newton. Burial will follow in Newton County Memorial Gardens. Dr. Brian Rushing and Dr. Frank Harmon will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 683-2152

Ed, commonly known as "Hot", served Newton County as Sheriff from 1976-1984. He served in the US Navy for four years and retired from ESCO in 2004. His hobbies were hunting and playing golf.

He was preceded in death by parents, Tommie and Inez Cumberland; siblings, Gurvis Cumberland, Roy Cumberland, Sarah Chaney, Tommie Jean Estes, and Mozelle Yarbrough.

Survivors include wife, Linda Cumberland; children, Jeff Cumberland (Stephanie) and Denise Todd (David); grandchildren, Calli Boggan (Matthew), Nikki Roberts (Rob), Haley Goolsby (Jamie), and Austin Chaney; great-grandchildren, Reese Roberts, Brayden Goolsby, and Chamblee Boggan; sisters, Dianne Hackett (Ed) and Sue Ely (James); Numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Massingill, Walter Chapman, Jerry Chaney, James Ely, Ronnie Estes, and Kent Estes.

Honorary Pallbearers are Gary Cumberland, Sammy Cumberland, Keith Comans, Bud Smith, Tony Estes, and Tommy Chaney.
