Denver Leon Rigdon, 92, of Union, MS passed away Monday, February 13, 2017. He was born Wednesday, March 19, 1924 in Duffee, MS.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home - North in Newton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home - North in Newton, MS. Burial will follow in Newton County Memorial Garden. Bro. Mr. Rigdon was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He served his country as a Seaman First Class on the USS LST 121 during WWII in the Pacific. He was present at the Battles of Saipan, Iwo Jima, Peleliu and Eniwetok.
Mr. Rigdon retired from GM&O and the ICG Railroad Company after 33 years of employment as a Depot Agent. He was a member of the Pinckney Lodge No. 313 and the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 99 of Philadelphia.
Anyone who was around Denver for very long knew that church and family was very important to him. He was involved with the Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Camp Bailey while living in the Erin Community. After moving to Union, he became an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union. He enjoyed meeting friends at the coffee shop and his daily walks in the park.
He is preceded in death by his Wife - Mary Rowena Rigdon; Parents-Thomas Marshall and Elsie Mae Rigdon; Great-Granddaughter Zoey Rigdon.
Survivors include his Sons - Milford Rigdon (Gay), Denis Rigdon (Judy), Michael Rigdon (Linda); Daughter - Yolanda Arthur (Basil); Brother - Darwin Rigdon, Sisters - Verna McDade and Alfa Gilmore; 9 Grandchildren, 26 Great-grandchildren and 7 Great-Great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wade Rigdon, Kevin Rigdon, Jason Rigdon, Ryan Rigdon, Kelsi Harkins, Susan Withers, Jake Rigdon, Dewey Arthur and Lucas Arthur.
