David Randall "Randy" Johnson, 68, of Hickory, Mississippi, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 2:00 PM in the New Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM at New Fellowship Baptist Church in the Fellowship Community. Bro. Robert Rowzee will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 683-2152
Randy was born Monday, November 5, 1951, in LaGrange, Georgia. He served in the United States Army as a member of the 173 rd Airborne Brigade. He received an Army Commendation Medal for service during the Vietnam War.
Randy and his wife, Jan, were married 42 years. He loved his family fiercely and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed building fun things for them, including a playhouse and zip-line. He also enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, and wood-working. He had a contagious laugh that he loved to share with family and friends. Randy was a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Williams Johnson; children, Sarah (Derrick) Jones, Shelley (Hank) Thoms, Jessica (Brooks) Moorhead, Matthew (Lori) Bexton; grandchildren, Bella Grace and Aubrey Jones, Reese and Tripp Thoms, Geneva and Daniel Moorhead, and Noah Bexton; brothers, Clarence "Buster" (Dale) Johnson and Roger (Patsy) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Dot Barber and Dorothy Williams, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ocie Mae Johnson; brother, Jimmy Johnson and granddaughter, Baby Girl Thoms.
Pallbearers will be James Williams, James Thorne, Mike Anderson, Rodney Brock, Doug Johnson, and Allen Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Crenshaw and David Rice.
The family would like to thank Melissa Stamm, Barbara Ardd, other employees of Southern Care Hospice, and the staff of Ann's Adult Sitting Service.
