Ethridge
October 1, 1935 – December 21, 2023
David Meshack Ethridge, 88 passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the V.A. Nursing Home in Kosciusko. He was born Tuesday, October 1, 1935 in Jasper County.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home - North with services immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Newton County Memorial Gardens.
Rev. Mark Vincent will officiate.
Mr. Ethridge was a graduate of Decatur High School and East Central Junior College. Following college graduation, he joined the United States Army, and also served in the Army National Guard. He was a retired farmer and a member of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church at Decatur. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, especially growing prize tomatoes and watermelons. Folks will remember Mr. David as the "peanut brittle man," often sharing with his friends and neighbors, alike. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family, and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ona Mae Mann Ethridge and one brother, Milton Ethridge (Jeanette).
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Nancy LeCount Ethridge; three sons, David L. Ethridge (Karen), Randy L. Ethridge (Wanda) and Mike F. Ethridge, all of Decatur; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one nephew and one niece.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Ethridge, Justin Ethridge, Jacob Duncan, Josh Ethridge Jr., Jared Ethridge, and Marshall McDaniel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Ethridge Sr., Jaxson Duncan, Wayne Comans, Kenneth Chaney, Jerry Purser, and Carl McNair.
Newton County Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements.
